Islamic State makes big capture Posted: 24 Dec 2014 01:24 PM PST By Suleiman Al-Khalidi AMMAN (Reuters) - Islamic State fighters took a Jordanian pilot prisoner after his warplane came down in northeast Syria on Wednesday, the first captive taken from the U.S.-led coalition battling the jihadi group. Jordan's armed forces said one of its pilots had been captured after a coalition air raid over the province of Raqqa. There were contradictory accounts as to whether his aircraft had been shot down or not. Johnson (Reuters) - A white policeman shot dead a black man brandishing a gun at a suburban St. Louis gasoline station overnight, police said on Wednesday, igniting violence reminiscent of riots over the police killing of an unarmed black teenager in nearby Ferguson. Black officials in Missouri were at pains to distinguish the death of a suspect they said had a gun from cases where unarmed black men were killed by police officers, incidents that led to protests across the United States and bitter debate about how American police forces treat non-white citizens. ... |

(Reuters) - A firefighter was grazed in the arm during a drive-by shooting behind a north Florida fire station on Tuesday evening, police said. Firefighters were refueling a ladder truck in back of Station 28 in Jacksonville, Florida, when a passing vehicle opened fire, according to a police report. Two firefighters, who were working the pump, ducked as they heard multiple gunshots, and one was hit in the arm by shrapnel from a bullet, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.
