Jordan vows 'earth-shaking' response to IS burning of hostage

(AP Photo/Raad Adayleh)Islamic State militants released a video on Tuesday appearing to show a captured Jordanian pilot being burnt alive in a cage, a killing that shocked the world and prompted Jordan to promise an "earth-shaking" response. A Jordanian official said the authorities would swiftly execute several militants in retaliation, including an Iraqi woman whom Amman had sought to swap for the pilot taken captive after his plane crashed in Syria in December. Reuters could not immediately confirm the content of the video, which showed a man resembling airman Mouath al-Kasaesbeh standing in a small black cage before being set ablaze. The furious reaction of the Jordanian authorities made clear they treated it as genuine.

US special operations forces "using unmanned aircraft and several Hellfire missiles" carried out the strike on Saturday against Shebab's chief of external operations and planning, spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby told reporters. The Pentagon identified the Shebab senior figure as Yusuf Dheeq.

(Reuters) - A commuter train struck a car on Tuesday near the town of Valhalla, New York, the Metro-North Railroad service said on its official Twitter feed. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries or fatalities. The police department in Mount Pleasant, which is in charge of security in Valhalla, about 30 miles northeast of New York City, declined to give any information on the incident when contacted by Reuters. The New York Daily News reported on its website that the accident occurred about 6:45 p.m. and that the car burst into flames. ...

Toyota ordered to pay $11 million in U.S. trial over fatal crash

Koua Fong Lee, the Camry's driver, was found 40 percent responsible, according to lawyers. Toyota denied that the car was at fault, and said the driver had been negligent. A spokeswoman for Toyota, Amanda Rice, said it was weighing its legal options.
