Pentagon: U.S. base shipped live anthrax to 19 states plus D.C.

Army Colonel Steve Warren, a Defense Department spokesman, said 31 people were receiving precautionary treatment for exposure to live anthrax, unchanged since the Pentagon's last update on the incident. Warren said one new state, Pennsylvania, had been added to the list of locations where live anthrax had been sent.

(Reuters) - A second court-appointed psychiatrist has concluded that Colorado movie theater gunman James Holmes was sane when he fatally shot 12 moviegoers and wounded dozens more in 2012, jurors in his capital murder trial heard on Monday. Psychiatrist Jeffrey Metzner testified that after interviewing Holmes for more than 25 hours he determined that the onetime neuroscience graduate student met the criteria for sanity under Colorado law. "Despite having a mental disability or defect ... Mr. Holmes had the capacity to tell the difference between right and wrong," Metzner said.

Man pleads guilty to plotting suicide bomb attack on Kansas airport

Terry Loewen, 59, was arrested trying to enter the tarmac at the airport with what he believed was a vehicle loaded with explosives, with a plan to trigger the device next to a terminal and die in the blast, according to a criminal complaint. U.S. District Judge Monti Belot set sentencing for Aug. 31.
