Suspect in slaying of U.S. Marines made 2014 trip to Mideast Posted: 17 Jul 2015 04:35 PM PDT CHATTANOOGA, Tenn./WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The suspect in the fatal shootings of four U.S. Marines traveled to Jordan and possibly other Middle Eastern countries last year, authorities said on Friday, as the investigation focused on any signs of a connection to Islamist militants. Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, a Kuwaiti-born naturalized U.S. citizen, died on Thursday in a firefight with police after a rampage at two military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The 24-year-old engineer traveled to Jordan, possibly between April and November, U.S. government sources and friends of Abdulazeez in Chattanooga told Reuters. |
Colorado movie rampage survivors want gunman put to death Posted: 17 Jul 2015 02:43 PM PDT After all 165 guilty verdicts were read and Colorado's movie massacre gunman was taken back to a cell to await his fate, many of his victims smiled and hugged and said James Holmes must be executed for justice to be done. Survivors and their loved ones gathered outside the rain-swept courthouse on Thursday evening, after Holmes was convicted of killing 12 people and wounding 70 inside a Denver-area theater. "As soon as we heard the first 'guilty' we knew the other dominoes were going to fall," said Tom Sullivan, 60. |
Family, supporters mark anniversary of New York chokehold death Posted: 17 Jul 2015 04:02 PM PDT Family and supporters on Friday marked the anniversary of the police killing of Eric Garner with rallies and vigils demanding police reforms and justice in the controversial case. Protesters gathered on Staten Island, the New York City borough where Garner, a 43-year-old black father of six, died last July 17 after New York police put him in a banned chokehold.
