In January, Turkish authorities detained one of the suicide bombers at Turkey's border and deported him to Belgium. Brahim Abdeslam, Turkish authorities told Belgian police at the time, had been "radicalized" and was suspected of wanting to join Islamic State in Syria, a Turkish security source told Reuters. |
Clinton to propose tax credit for family caregiving costs Posted: 22 Nov 2015 11:22 AM PST Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will on Sunday propose a tax credit offsetting up to $6,000 in costs associated with caring for elderly and disabled family members, and allowing caregivers to accrue Social Security retirement benefits for such work. The caregiving credit, which would have a maximum value of $1,200 for qualifying families, will be the latest in a "range of tax cuts aimed a boosting the take-home pay for middle-class families" that Clinton will announce over the coming weeks, according to a campaign aide. Clinton, who will appear in Iowa on Sunday, has previously announced a tax credit of $2,500 for an individual or $5,000 for a family to cover high healthcare costs and another credit that would cover some of the expense of attending college. |
Early season snowstorm coats Midwestern U.S., affects travel Posted: 22 Nov 2015 07:52 AM PST CHICAGO/DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - A heavy fall snowstorm hit the Midwestern United States on Saturday, blanketing states from South Dakota to Wisconsin with as much as 16 inches (40 cm) of snow, slowing air travel and delaying some events for U.S. presidential candidates. The storm was forecast to travel east into the Great Lakes region, reaching Michigan and upstate New York according to the National Weather Service. "We have snow across the area with heavier amounts across northern Illinois," said Amy Seeley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Chicago. |
Southwest plane diverted to Missouri over 'suspicious' behavior: FBI Posted: 22 Nov 2015 10:24 AM PST A Southwest Airlines flight from Indianapolis to Los Angeles was diverted to Kansas City and searched on Sunday after the crew reported suspicious behavior by some passengers, the FBI said. "The flight crew diverted the flight to Kansas City out of an abundance of caution based upon suspicious behavior displayed by several passengers," FBI spokesperson Bridget Patton in Kansas City said in a statement. |
