US blizzard kills 24, Washington struggles to rebound Posted: 24 Jan 2016 04:31 PM PST The eastern United States emerged wearily from a massive blizzard that dumped huge amounts of snow and killed at least 24 people, but Washington was still reeling, with government offices and schools to remain closed Monday. The 26.8 inches (68 centimeters) of snow that fell in New York's Central Park was the second-highest accumulation since records began in 1869, and more than 22 inches paralyzed the capital Washington. Roads were reopened throughout the city, on Long Island and in New Jersey. |

Trump would 'love' Bloomberg presidential run Posted: 24 Jan 2016 08:32 AM PST Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump on Sunday warmly welcomed a mooted run for the White House by Michael Bloomberg, saying he would "love" to go up against the fellow billionaire and former New York mayor. The New York Times, citing anonymous sources, said Saturday that the 73-year-old Bloomberg is mulling an independent bid for the presidency and is prepared to spend $1 billion of his personal fortune. The Republican-turned-independent sees a potential opening should Trump and Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders -- who is surging in polls -- win their parties' nominations, the sources said. |
