No U.S. personnel were hurt in the blast, according to the U.S. State Department, which said a "vehicle-borne improvised explosive device" exploded right outside the entrance to the heavily fortified compound. Iraq's Kurdish region is an important partner for the U.S.-led coalition in its campaign to "degrade and destroy" the Islamic State group, which overran large parts of Iraq last summer and threatened to reach Erbil.

During the third day of deliberations in state Supreme Court in Manhattan, the panel asked to examine a missing-child poster featuring the boy, which had been introduced as evidence. The suspect, Pedro Hernandez, 54, a former Manhattan deli worker, had written on the poster: "I am sorry (and) choke him." The jury was due to resume deliberations at 9:45 a.m. (1345 GMT) on Monday. It inspired a national campaign to put the photographs of missing children on milk cartons to raise public awareness and solicit tips to locate them.

Police will limit the crowds near the finish line on Boylston Street, where a pair of ethnic Chechen brothers set off twin pressure-cooker bombs that injured 264 people and set the stage for the most chaotic week in Boston's living memory. "The city will be the same positive environment that people are used to enjoying during the marathon," said Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, describing the impending event on Monday as a "safe and joyful day for everyone." More than 100 cameras will oversee the route through eastern Massachusetts, from a suburb of Hopkinton to downtown Boston, with 50 observation points near the finish line, said Police Commissioner William Evans, adding: "Don't leave backpacks laying around." Emergency medical services for the race will include two large medical tents near the finish line, 14 ambulances and a 30-bed ambulance bus parked in a downtown Boston park.

| Police say Phoenix gunman 'snapped,' killed four, then himself Posted: 17 Apr 2015 02:21 PM PDT By David Schwartz PHOENIX (Reuters) - A man apparently upset over a family business dispute "snapped" before fatally shooting his two brothers, his mother and his sister-in-law and then killing himself at a home in Phoenix, police said on Friday. The shooter was found by police in an upstairs bedroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound after Thursday's incident, said Sergeant Trent Crump, a Phoenix police spokesman. Crump said witnesses described how one of the brothers "snaps or loses it." He said the man apparently killed his brothers with a semi-automatic handgun downstairs, then shot and killed his mother when she arrived at the house to see what was happening. He then went upstairs and fatally shot his sister-in-law before turning the gun on himself, investigators said. |
