New Galaxy Note 8 leak may reveal several exciting new features Posted: 06 Jun 2017 12:30 PM PDT A fresh Galaxy Note 8 leak reveals more details about Samsung's next-gen phablet, and while the source's credibility is yet to be established, these tidbits certainly sound exciting. PoyocoTech is the name of a new Twitter account that deals in the "latest leaks and renders of upcoming tech gadgets," and we have no way of knowing what kind of leaker this user really is. Does the person have access to real sources, or is he or she simply repurposing content found on forums, chats, and social networks from China, passing off said content as his or her own original leaks? After all, this seems to be a trend right now. Time will tell whether PoyocoTech is a real thing or a just a pretender, but the Twitter user did post a quite a few Galaxy Note 8 details worth going over. https://twitter.com/PoyocoTech/status/872016877916217344 The user says the Galaxy Note 8 will have the same overall design as the Galaxy S8, complete with a large Infinity display. PoyocoTech also repeats some of the rumors that we have already heard about the Galaxy Note 8. The device will have a fingerprint sensor under the display, and a dual lens camera on the back. The leaker adds that Samsung will "attempt to perfect" the design by going for uniformly aligned ports on the bottom. https://twitter.com/PoyocoTech/status/872018133674061824 The rear camera should be based on the Galaxy Note 3's camera in terms of layout, and the phone will come with stereo speaker pumping out AKG sound. https://twitter.com/PoyocoTech/status/872018296140443648 The Bixby button is getting a textured surface, while the S Pen will be similar to the Note 7's stylus. https://twitter.com/PoyocoTech/status/872018528899084289 https://twitter.com/PoyocoTech/status/872019467416588288 Finally, the S Pen is said to have a built-in vibration motor, and it'll come with support for Find My Mobile. If you misplace it, you should be able to locate it with the help of the app, assuming these leaks are accurate. |
Woman accused of urging boyfriend to kill himself goes on trial Posted: 06 Jun 2017 01:04 PM PDT A young woman accused of encouraging her boyfriend to kill himself, was playing a "sick game", a court has been told. Trump who? Tech giants join massive effort to uphold Paris Agreement Posted: 05 Jun 2017 11:36 AM PDT U.S. tech titans are joining an effort by more than 1,000 U.S. governors, mayors, investors, universities, and companies to commit to meeting the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement. Tech firms, including Apple, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, are banding together following President Trump's controversial decision on June 1 to withdraw the U.S. from the historic climate change treaty. Social media giants Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat also joined the effort. Noticeably absent were Oracle, IBM, and all the major telecommunications providers. SEE ALSO: U.S. mayors and governors defy Trump, will stick to Paris agreement anyway The new campaign, called "We Are Still In," formally debuted on Monday after it was quietly announced last week. "We Are Still In" represents the most serious attempt yet by local officials, business executives, and private-sector leaders to buck the Trump administration's decision, which sent political shockwaves around the world. Participants vowed to meet the Paris agreement's target of limiting global warming to "well below" 2 degrees Celsius, or 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, above preindustrial levels by 2100. They also pledged to accelerate the transition to renewable energy. "Actions by each group will multiply and accelerate in the years ahead, no matter what policies Washington may adopt," they wrote. The new coalition includes dozens of university and college leaders, including the chancellors of six University of California campuses, the president of New York University, plus schools from many states in between the coasts. Nineteen attorneys general joined the group, including New York AG Eric Schneiderman and Massachusetts AG Maura Healy, both of whom are investigating Exxon Mobil for allegedly deceiving investors on the company's climate risks. 19 AGs are joining the states, cities, & businesses pledging #WeAreStillIn to the #ParisAgreement. Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change, is coordinating the effort. He's expected to deliver the statement to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the body that oversees global climate negotiations, on Monday afternoon. Bloomberg has said that efforts by cities, states, and companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions might ultimately be enough to meet America's current commitment under the Paris treaty. Former President Obama pledged to reduce the country's emissions by 26 to 28 percent by 2025, from their levels in 2005. "American society remains committed to achieving the emission reductions we pledged to make in Paris in 2015," Bloomberg said in a statement. The coalition intends to submit a "Societal Nationally Determined Contribution" to the U.N., which will be called "America's Pledge" and account for the climate-fighting efforts of U.S. cities, states, businesses, and other subnational actors. Christiana Figueres, a former top U.N. climate official who helped broker the Paris treaty, told the New York Times there is currently no formal mechanism for entities that aren't countries to fully participate in the Paris accord. Patricia Espinosa, who succeeded Figueres in the top U.N. climate job, said the organization applauded the U.S. coalition's move. "The UNFCCC welcomes the determination and commitment from such a wealth and array of cities, states, businesses and other groups in the United States to fast forward climate action and emissions reductions in support of the Paris Climate Change Agreement," she said in a statement. 1,000+ U.S. leaders say "#WeAreStillIn," stepping up to #ActOnClimate and meet the goals of the #ParisAgreement. https://t.co/TZDS9nmoAy pic.twitter.com/hCxxWwIj1H — Ceres (@CeresNews) June 5, 2017 "We Are Still In" is the latest in a string of related efforts that have cropped up in the days since Trump's Paris announcement. Thirteen governors representing both political parties have joined the newly created United States Climate Alliance, which commits states to upholding the global warming targets under the Paris Agreement. In addition, more than 200 mayors (and counting) have pledged to intensify their local climate efforts to meet the Paris Agreement's aspirational goal to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, or 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit, above preindustrial levels through 2100. That more stringent temperature target is a high priority for low-lying developing nations that are worried about sea level rise. Mashable reporter Kerry Flynn contributed to this story. Prosecutors in Venezuela say 65 people have died since April 1, when near-daily pro- and anti-Maduro rallies turned more violent, with protesters and security forces targeted. Leaked top-secret documents detail Russian cyberattack on US voting centers before 2016 election Posted: 05 Jun 2017 01:46 PM PDT The 2016 presidential election is now many months in the past, but the details of what external factors played a role in the eventual outcome show no sign of ceasing. A new report from The Intercept reveals that a Russian military intelligence effort was launched just days before the day of the election, and that it targeted the voting process on multiple levels, including a supplier of electronic voting software and even voting officials in many locations. According to the report, which cites anonymously leaked NSA documents which were "independently authenticated" and remain top secret, provides a look into the internal investigation surrounding attacks on our voting process at the hands of Russia. The documents detail the execution of cyber espionage missions in order to "obtain information on elections-related software and hardware solutions" which were authorized by the Russian military. The bad actors are said to have targeted private companies which play a role in the voting system, including those which provide and maintain the software used to record and voter registrations. Additionally, the attackers launched a "spear-phishing" attack on local government officials in charge of voting in some areas. Attackers sent malware-infected files to email addresses associated with the individuals, potentially risking the infection of computer systems linked to the voting process. It is unclear how many of the targeted officials fell victim to the malicious software, or what sensitive information, if any, was compromised. Russian president Vladimir Putin, for the record, has vehemently denied that the country took place in any cyber warfare against the US voting system, and suggested that independent hackers may have carried out attacks of their own free will and without government authorization or support. |
