North Korea offers deep apologies to China over deadly bus crash Posted: 25 Apr 2018 08:03 PM PDT North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has offered his deep apologies to China after a bus crash in his isolated country killed 32 Chinese tourists, state media said on Thursday. China is North Korea's most important economic and diplomatic backer, despite Beijing's anger at Pyongyang's repeated nuclear and missile tests and support for strong United Nations sanctions against North Korea. The tourists and four North Koreans were killed when a bus crashed off a bridge in North Korea late on Sunday, leaving two Chinese nationals in critical condition. |

Would Israel Attack S-300 Air Defenses in Syria? Posted: 25 Apr 2018 02:29 PM PDT There is no shortage of reasons to be concerned about the entangled drama unfolding in Syria, as Russia maneuvers on a shifting landscape that could see Israel and Iran collide in a direct confrontation. Commentary in The Wall Street Journal on Monday urged caution on the part of Moscow, arguing that Russia has already nudged the regional arch-enemies closer to war. A recent Israeli strike on a base in Syria which killed seven Iranians, including four Quds Force officers, might have been swept under the rug by Iran, according to the author Dennis Ross, but Russia's decision to call out Israel for the strike has forced Iran's hand, increasing the likelihood of retaliation to save face. |
Migrants at US border ask Trump to have heart Posted: 26 Apr 2018 09:33 AM PDT Olga Caballero and her four children set out from southern Mexico a month ago as part of a US-bound caravan that infuriated President Donald Trump. Now, having reached the border with the wealthy United States on Tuesday, this Honduran woman is asking the anti-immigrant Trump to show compassion and remember that he, too, is a father. Caballero and her children -- whose ages range from two to 16 -- spent the first night in Tijuana, across the border from San Diego, as part of a caravan of 120 migrants including 50 minors who arrived on two buses. |

Bill Cosby: How Andrea Constand stood up for more than just herself Posted: 26 Apr 2018 01:42 PM PDT Andrea Constand exited the courtroom smiling after American actor Bill Cosby was convicted of three counts of aggravated indecent assault. Donning a white suit jacket and blue top Ms Constand looked relieved, if nothing else, as she stepped out into the spring weather. Ms Constand has been fighting for recourse since 2004 when Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. |
North Korea nuclear test site part-collapsed: Chinese experts Posted: 25 Apr 2018 06:06 AM PDT North Korea's underground nuclear test site has partially collapsed following a massive bomb blast last year, making it unusable, Chinese seismologists have concluded. The North's leader Kim Jong Un declared last week that his regime would halt nuclear and long-range missile tests and shut down its nuclear site at Punggye-ri under Mount Mantap in the country's northeast. The offer came days before his summit this Friday with the South's President Moon Jae-in, which is scheduled to be followed by a summit with US President Donald Trump. |
Russian envoy plays down tensions with Israel over Syria strikes Posted: 25 Apr 2018 02:21 AM PDT Russia's ambassador to Israel on Wednesday played down tensions between the countries over Israeli attacks in Syria, saying they were not the reason for Moscow's proposed supply of an advanced air defense system to Damascus. Since intervening in Syria's civil war on behalf of President Bashar al-Assad in 2015, Russia has generally turned a blind eye to Israeli air strikes there against suspected arms transfers and deployments by his Iranian and Hezbollah allies. |

"Recently, members of an infiltration network affiliated to Britain have been arrested," an unnamed source told the Fars news agency, which is considered close to the powerful Revolutionary Guards. The report named Edalat, a professor of computer science and mathematics at Imperial College in London. |
Posted: 26 Apr 2018 08:59 AM PDT A man who was told a gold coin in his possession was a fake is set to become a millionaire after experts realised it was the real deal. The collector, who wished to remain anonymous, was convinced his coin was a fraudulent replica of a special $5 coin produced by the San Francisco Mint at the height of the California Gold Rush in 1854. Coin dealers agreed with him, since only three out of the 268 Liberty Head Half Eagles made were known to have survived into modern times. |

Armenian protest leader says he's only possible PM Posted: 26 Apr 2018 10:46 AM PDT Armenia's protest leader Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday ruled out any possibility of compromise with authorities, saying he should be elected prime minister in a vote next week. Earlier in the day Armenia's parliament set May 1 as the date to elect a prime minister in a bid to defuse escalating tensions and Russian leader Vladimir Putin stressed the "importance" of the vote in phone talks with the acting head of government. Addressing supporters at a rally in the capital Yerevan, Pashinyan said he was the only suitable candidate for prime minister and rejected the possibility of any backroom deals with the ruling Republican Party. |

Alek Minassian: Toronto attack suspect posted online about 'incel rebellion', say police Posted: 25 Apr 2018 04:21 AM PDT Alek Minassian, the Toronto van attack suspect, is believed to have posted on Facebook praising "incel" killer Elliot Rodger only minutes before 10 people were mown down and killed in the Canadian city on Monday. In 2014 Rodger, 22, killed six people and injured 13 in California, having raged online at women for rejecting him, also using the term "incel", before taking his own life. Acknowledging Mr Minassian's "cryptic" post, Toronto police said the question of whether his alleged actions were driven by anger against women would be "part of our investigation". |
Exclusive: Russian civilians helping Assad use military base back home - witnesses Posted: 24 Apr 2018 11:41 PM PDT By Maria Tsvetkova and Anton Zverev MOLKINO, Russia (Reuters) - The Kremlin says it has nothing to do with Russian civilians fighting in Syria but on three recent occasions groups of men flying in from Damascus headed straight to a defense ministry base in Molkino, Reuters reporters witnessed. Molkino in southwestern Russia is where the Russian 10th Special Forces Brigade is based, according to information on the Kremlin website. The destination of the Russians arriving from Syria provides rare evidence of a covert Russian mission in Syria beyond the air strikes, training of Syrian forces and small numbers of special forces troops acknowledged by Moscow. |
