Kennedy International Airport on Sunday to get a last look at the iconic architecture of the Trans World Airlines Flight Center before the futuristic 1960's building is converted into a hotel. The terminal, built in 1962 as an uplifting symbol of the Jet Age, was designed by renowned Finnish-born architect Eero Saarinen, who also created St. Louis' Gateway Arch. The "Mad Men"-era edifice, now a national historic landmark, was used by TWA until the airline went bankrupt in 2001. |
Chicago boy, 6, accidentally shoots, kills brother, 3: police Posted: 18 Oct 2015 04:39 PM PDT A Chicago man has been charged with child endangerment after his three-year-old son was shot and killed by his six-year-old brother while the two were playing "cops and robbers," police said on Sunday. The six-year-old found the loaded revolver on top of the refrigerator and shot little brother Eian Santiago in the head on Saturday evening, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. The boys' father, Michael Santiago, 25, was arrested and charged with child endangerment, a felony, police said. |
Gunfire at Florida Zombicon event leaves one dead, five hurt Posted: 18 Oct 2015 10:47 AM PDT Gunfire erupted at a Florida festival that attracts thousands of people dressed in zombie costumes, killing one person, injuring five others and sending crowds of frightened people rushing for cover, local media and authorities said on Sunday. The News-Press newspaper, citing police, reported that Expavious Tyrell Taylor, 20, of Okeechobee was killed in the shooting shortly before midnight on Saturday at Florida Zombicon in downtown Fort Myers. Four people were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Victor Medico, a spokesman of the Fort Myers Police Department, said to the News-Press. |
Israel, U.S. signal security ties back on track after Iran feud Posted: 18 Oct 2015 04:59 PM PDT By Phil Stewart and Dan Williams TEL AVIV (Reuters) - Israel and the United States signaled on Sunday they were starting to put disputes over the Iran nuclear deal behind them, announcing resumed talks on U.S. defense aid for Israel as it hosted Washington's top general and a joint air force drill. The allies had been looking to agree on a 10-year military aid package to extend the current U.S. grants to Israel worth $3 billion annually, which are due to expire in 2017. |
