Two journalists, reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward of Roanoke CBS affiliate WDBJ7, were shot during a live interview on Wednesday by a disgruntled former station employee who later killed himself. Parker's father, Andy Parker, urged state and federal lawmakers to take action on gun control, especially to keep firearms out of the hands of people who were mentally unstable.

A county prosecutor said defendant Owen Labrie, 19, told a friend had he had used "every trick in the book" to get the victim to have sex with him. "You only need tricks if someone says no," Assistant Merrimack County Attorney Joseph Cherniske told the jury of 11 men and three women, including two alternates.
