Big shark swings by cops just doing their job

Big shark swings by cops just doing their jobCops are used to surprises on the job, but seldom a casual great white shark. South Australian Police looking to breathalyse and check up on boat operators last Friday were greeted by the animal, who cruised around them for about 10 minutes. SEE ALSO: Try not to get hypnotized by this 'shark whisperer' and his calming powers It's estimated the shark, nicknamed Noah by police, measured around 4.5 to five metres (14 feet) long. "I told the boys to back off a bit because the shark was right next to us," fisherman Mark Oaks told ABC News. "For probably the next 10 or 15 minutes we just sat around. The police brought the big boat in, which is where the footage from above the shark has come from."  "Noah wasn't keen on being breath tested and our Water Operations Unit officers were happy to oblige!" South Australia Police wrote in a Facebook post. The great white shark is arguably one of the most feared species in Australian waters due to its threat to humans. It is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN, however its exact population in the south-west of Australia remains unknown despite attempts to calculate it. Bollywood actor Salman Khan guilty of poaching rare antelope

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 02:17 AM PDT

Bollywood actor Salman Khan guilty of poaching rare antelope An Indian court jailed Bollywood star Salman Khan for five years for poaching on Thursday, lawyers said, a sentence likely to derail the career of one of the country's most popular actors. Khan, 52, was found guilty of violating wildlife laws by killing a blackbuck, an endangered species of antelope, in 1998. Four other Bollywood actors accused in the case were acquitted. The stocky Khan wore a black shirt and sunglasses as he entered the court followed by an entourage of aides. Television footage later showed police escorting him to jail in Jodhpur, in the western state of Rajasthan. Khan, one of India's biggest actors, has a checkered history of brushes with the law Television said Khan planned to appeal against the sentence. His lawyer, Anand Desai, told Reuters he had submitted a plea for bail which a judge will hear on Friday. The case was brought by members of a community known as the Bishnoi, who revere antelopes. The community has pursued the case against Khan for almost two decades and cheered the decision by setting off firecrackers near the courthouse and handing out sweets. Four other Bollywood actors accused in the case - Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre - were acquitted, prosecution lawyer Mahipal Bishnoi said. Some actors came out in Khan's support. "I feel this is too harsh. I do hope he gets the relief he deserves," Arjun Rampal said. Khan has had a history of run-ins with the law. In 2015, Bombay High Court overturned his conviction in a hit-and-run case in which he was accused of running over a group of people sleeping on a city sidewalk, killing one and injuring four. Last year, another court in Jodhpur acquitted Khan in a separate poaching case, ruling that there was no proof that Khan had killed an endangered gazelle. Khan has made a series of blockbuster hits in the last few years with the latest in December, "Tiger Zinda Hai", grossing more than 3 billion rupees ($52 million) at the box office. His next film, "Race 3", is an action thriller scheduled for release later in the year. The court's ruling against Khan, who has 32.5 million followers on Twitter and was promoting his movie last week, sparked worries among Bollywood traders. "If he doesn't get bail, then the jail term will have repercussions," said Girish Johar, a trade analyst. "He is a big star, and has a lot of big films lined up, all scheduled to be released over the next two years."

Watch in horror as Donald Trump's hair attempts another daring escapePresident Trump's hair is the subject of plenty of internet memes. The latest craze appears to be images of Donald Trump boarding Air Force One as he headed to West Virginia Thursday, his hair violently battling the fierce winds. SEE ALSO: Donald Trump's 'pee tape' controversy, explained What may look like just a blustery day could be the latest in escape attempts from Trump's infamous comb over.  Image: Nicholas Kamm / AFP/Getty ImagesThere's hair that gets perfectly swept by the wind, there's hair that gets messy and tangled, and then there's Donald Trump's hair, which looks like it is trying to completely dislodge itself from his scalp.  watching his hair blow in the wind is honestly hypnotic pic.twitter.com/k82Kl37Ejq — David Mack (@davidmackau) April 5, 2018 Using the wind as a disguise, the hair is writhing in an attempt to free itself and embark on a life of its own. Just look at that struggle. Image: Nicholas Kamm/AFP/Getty ImagesBut much like Trump's sway on parts of the nation, his scalp maintains a strong, sticky grip on his hair. It's almost tranquil, in a weird,"let's focus on the ridiculousness of his hair instead of everything else going wrong in the world" sorta way. It's kinda zen. Virgin Galactic completes first powered flight since  fatal crash in 2014

Virgin Galactic completes first powered flight since  fatal crash in 2014 Virgin Galactic has completed its first powered flight since a fatal crash nearly four years, a milestone which Sir Richard Branson said brought space 'tantalisingly close.' The company has struggled to re-establish itself following the death of co-pilot Michael Alsbury, 39, who was killed when his aircraft crashed into the Mojave Desert in California in October 2014. Virgin Galactic had promised to send space tourists to the edge of Earth's atmosphere where they could see the curvature of the planet and experience weightlessness. But after Captain Alsbury's death, some customers who had already bought tickets demanded refunds, and the company spent years redesigning the craft, carrying out extensive engine testing and glide tests before attempting another supersonic flight. Virgin Galactic's Unity aircraft completed its first powered flight in the Mojave desert Credit: Virgin Galactic  On Thursday the Unity spacecraft took up with a two member crew from the Mojave Air and Space port, lifted by the jet-powered mothership Eve. It then powered up for 30 seconds and landed safely. It puts Britain firmly back in the commercial tourism and launch provider space race, which until recently the US appeared to be winning. Branson said Virgin Galactic was 'back on track' and confirmed that the flight had reached Mach 1.6, more than 1.5 times the speed of sound. Announcing the success on Twitter, he added: "Data review to come, then on to the next flight. Space feels tantalisingly close now." The entire project has been dogged with problems. Two of the six flights made by SpaceShipOne suffered potentially catastrophic problems. And in 2007, an explosion killed three engineers. It is the first time Virgin Galactic has completed a power flight since the death of Captain Michael Alsbury in October 2014 Credit: Virgin Galactic Before the accident, Virgin Galactic said the first space tourism flights would begin in the Spring of 2015. Even in the November following the crash CEO George Whitesides said it would be 'months not years' until commercial flights began, but an investigation found there had been inadequate safety features and the team was forced to go back to the drawing board, unveiling a new design in 2016. Around 24 passengers pulled out and have had the $250,000 (£157,000) ticket price refunded. Although some may only have paid deposits, the company stands to lose more than £3 million in lost sales. High profile ticket-holders include Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet and, until his death Stephen Hawking. In October, Virgin Galactic was given a huge $1 billion boost from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. At the time, Branson said the company was just months away from sending a ship into Earth's atmosphere. Following the flight Virgin Galactic tweeted: "Touch down. Congratulations Mark "Forger" Stucky and Dave Mackay for a great milestone test flight"
