This new bill would legalize weed in Canada

Posted: 13 Apr 2017 02:06 PM PDT

This new bill would legalize weed in CanadaCanadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is trying to change the maple leaf at the center of his nation's flag into a pot leaf.  That's not true. Although you could see how it might happen? There's a leaf there already? Anyway, for real, Trudeau's march to legal recreational weed has officially begun.  SEE ALSO: Colorado town caters to the lazy with its first drive-thru pot shop The prime minister revealed legislation on Thursday that would make it legal to recreationally smoke marijuana across Canada. There are roughly one bajillion details to figure out before Canadians will be able to purchase weed and smoke up just like people buy alcohol and drink, but this is where it starts. If successful, Canada and Uruguay would be the only countries to completely legalize recreational pot as a consumer product across their nations. Others have decriminalized it or effectively stopped enforcing laws against it. There's still a lot to do: the bill needs to become law; each province has to figure out how people will go about buying marijuana; and marketing regulations will have to be standardized. A number of questions will need to be answered, including how the advertising will work. Will it be sold like cigarettes or like alcohol or neither? Plus people are probably going to get too high to drive but will drive anyway, so the government will have to figure out how to test drivers the same way breathalyzers test blood-alcohol content. Provinces will also have to set prices and purchasing age minimums (the federal minimum will be 18, though provinces can make it higher) and government officials will have to figure out how to comply with drug treaties that they may or may not violate with legalization.  So the Canadian government's got a few things to figure out. But the bill is expected to pass, meaning soon most Canadians over the age of 18 will be able to buy weed, and households will be able to grow up to four plants.  Now see if United States President Donald Trump doesn't have to build another border wall just to keep people in.  WATCH: Trump is president, but at least you can get high in four more states

Uber just added a feature to protect you from creepy drivers

Uber just added a feature to protect you from creepy drivers

2017 hasn't exactly been kind to Uber, and while the company and its CEO can't seem to get out of each others' way, day-to-day operations continue to march on. Today, the Uber apps gets an all-new feature that, unlike almost every tidbit of Uber news so far this year, might actually make its users pretty happy. Starting today, riders who summon an Uber to their location can specify their pick-up and drop-off points without using physical street addresses, in an effort to boost user privacy and cut back on the creepiness of letting a driver know where you live.

With the new location options, if you don't feel like having an Uber driver meet you at a specific address you can choose any cross-street, including pre-determined pick-up spots at most major intersections. It's essentially an easier, faster way to obfuscate your comings and goings from the random drivers who show up to give you a lift.

It's worth noting that, if you really wanted to protect your privacy with the previous system, it has always been possible to physically move the pickup point on the Uber map, or simply choose a nearby address rather than your own. But as TechCrunch notes, Uber discovered that very few people were actually taking advantage of that option, and many desired an easier way to apply an additional layer of privacy.

This new pickup option should go a long way to fulfilling that request. The update to add the feature should be rolling out to all US users shortly, with wider implementation expected later.

Nintendo Switch battery case could be the system’s first must-have accessory

Nintendo Switch battery case could be the system's first must-have accessory

As massive of an improvement as the Nintendo Switch is over the Wii U, it still has its share of issues. The battery only lasts a few hours, the kickstand is flimsy and the charging port is positioned at the bottom of the tablet, making it impossible to charge while playing in tabletop mode. None of these issues are deal-breakers for most Switch owners, but they do hinder what could be the best portable consoles on the market.

Thankfully, someone has decided to solve all of these problems (and more) with one simple accessory.

InDemand Design's SwitchCharge is a battery case for the Nintendo Switch expected to ship in August. The creators are currently raising money for the case on Indiegogo, where over 1,800 backers have already more than doubled the $80,000 goal. With 23 days left, the campaign is primed to be a huge success.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQULgVJocMo

The primary feature of the SwitchCharge case is its 12,000mAh battery, which should give Switch owners up to 12 hours of uninterrupted game time. The case is also equipped with a sturdy, adjustable kickstand, 2 game card storage slots, quick charge technology and a USB-C port on the side (perfect for tabletop mode).

InDemand Design is asking for $85 for a SwitchCharge case and power supply, but you can save a few dollars by purchasing a set of multiple cases. The company plans to begin shipping SwitchCharge cases in July, with deliveries expected to arrive in August. As this is an unreleased project, we can't say whether or not it does everything it claims to do, but it looks like it could be the ultimate all-in-one accessory for the Switch.

At Chinese border with North Korea, trade cools but few signs of strainBy Philip Wen and Joseph Campbell DANDONG, China (Reuters) - Despite heightened tension on the Korean peninsula and North Korea warning of a nuclear strike against any sign of U.S. aggression, there were few signs of strain on Thursday on the main border post between China and the reclusive nation. In Dandong, through which about three-quarters of China's trade with North Korea flows, long queues of trucks heading in both directions formed across the Friendship Bridge, despite what locals said was a relative lull due to the North's most important national holiday on Saturday marking the birth of founder president Kim Il Sung. China has signed up to wide-ranging United Nations sanctions designed at halting Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and local traders told Reuters that blanket bans on key North Korean commodities exports like coal, iron ore powder and precious metals have dealt a blow to business.
